Sticky, wet, smells like pee. These are the three ways I would describe any surface in the entire LIRR system.
It's true. The floor of any LIRR train is either sticky or wet. Today, it was a little of both. Someone must have spilled their beer* and not bothered to even try and cover it up with a newspaper. That's why you can never put your bag on the floor. Or, if you do, you need to double check it isn't already wet and take a quick look around to see if anyone near you is drinking anything.
Plus, the waiting room areas are not always up to par. I shouldn't complain: In Rockville Centre there actually is a heated waiting area on the upper platform. But, since it's open to everyone, it attracts homeless people and drunk kids. Which means, it always smells like pee. (The elevators too.)
So, that's what I deal with. Sticky, wet, smelly floors.
Aw, well. Get me another Blue Moon and I'll barely notice it.
*For non-Long Islanders, the LIRR allows open containers on the train. There are portable bars set up on the platform during evening rush hour, and there are a ton of little shops in Penn that sell beer, wine and mixed drinks. Honestly, it's the best part of the commute when it's been a long day.
